Baylor University star Brittney Griner is making huge waves in the sports world. Not only is she a rising star in women’s college basketball, but she’s garnered the attention of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
According to ESPN, Cuban is willing to give Griner a shot at the NBA. He most certainly would select Griner in the second round of the NBA draft, should she choose to enter. “If she is the best on board, I will take her,” said Cuban. “I’ve thought about it. I’ve thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I’d lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it’s not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it.”
Cuban says that if the NBA doesn’t work out, he’d give her a shot at Dallas’s summer league team.
Griner responded to the news on Twitter saying, “I would hold my own! Let’s do it.” Griner can certainly hold her own standing at 6’8″. She’s also a three-time All-American and Big 12 player of the year. The Baylor senior has also scored 3,283 points during her college career.
Although Griner’s making headlines now, she wouldn’t be the first woman to try out for an NBA team. In 1979, Ann Meyers tried out for the Indiana Pacers.
Should the NBA go co-ed?
