What do hair weaves, preachers and a Rick Ross concert have in common? Plenty, if you’re on social media.
The Internet is buzzing with news of a Waco, Texas preacher allegedly banning his church’s female leadership staff from wearing weaves because, as he put it, “Black women are getting weaves trying to be something and someone they are not.”
“I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not in their heads,” is the quote one pastor A.J. Aamir is being credited with.
In other church news, pastor Rodney Willis was reportedly fired from his post after being spotted at a Rick Ross concert nine months ago. A deacon explained that Willis had been let go because he was supporting “people who are tearing down the kingdom of God.”
Both of these instances speak to the church deciding what is appropriate and what isn’t. In your eyes, are both instances justified? Would it have been more appropriate for pastor Aamir to focus on what is in his parishioner’s hearts, not on their heads? Should pastor Willis have been fired for attending a rap concert in his spare time? Let’s discuss.
