Black Americans seem to be divided on whether Police treat minorities fairly.
According to a recent survey conducted by Gallup, 48% of Black Americans said that minorities were treated unfairly by police, while 52% said that they were treated either “very fairly” or “fairly.”
With recent high-profile cases of African-Americans dying at the hands of or while in police custody, the treatment of minorities by law enforcement has been under severe scrutiny. The findings come at an interesting time as mourners commemorate the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown’s death and as the Black Lives Matter movement gains traction.
However, the survey paints a different picture also revealing that minorities are split on whether greater police presence is needed in their neighborhoods. For example, 51% of Blacks surveyed say they’d like to see “no change” in the police involvement in their community.
We want to know where you stand. Do you think minorities are treated fairly by police? Is the media painting a one-sided picture or do you experience unfair treatment from authorities? Do you think it depends on age, location and other factors? Let us know your thoughts below.
