America is quickly becoming one of the most diverse nations on earth, but many top companies still have not diversified their workforce. In Silicon Valley, for example, women and ethnic minorities are severely underrepresented in management roles, according to a recent investigation by CNN Money. Not surprising, White and Asian men dominate the tech industry.
Of course, Silicon Valley doesn’t exist in a bubble. Much of the hiring practices there can be found in industries across the board. People of color make up 36 percent of the workforce in America, according to the American Progress Report—a jump in the right direction compared to years past where minorities made up less than 10 percent. So, we’re getting there. But we’re stumbling along the way as companies fail to take notice of the changing face of America.
