Seems like President Barack Obama is in hot water this morning. During a fundraiser in California yesterday, Obama introduced Attorney General Kamala Harris in an unusually flattering way.
In addition to praising her skills, Obama took it a step further and complimented her looks. “She is brilliant and she is dedicated and she is tough,” said Obama. He paused before saying, “She also happens to be by far the best looking attorney general in the country.”
Immediately following the president’s comment, which ruffled some feathers and left many feeling awkward, Obama said, “It’s true, come on.”
The fall out this morning has been anything but kind to the president’s intended comedic comments. New York magazine writer Jonathan Chait said, “Obama’s comment about Kamala Harris is disgraceful and really terrible for workplace equality.”
As the New York Daily News points out, the comments didn’t bother everyone who attended the fundraiser. Politico media reporter Dylan Byers said, “How did it become so difficult to call a woman good looking in public?”
