A new report from the Centers for Diesease Control and Prevention (CDC), found that “birth rates among unmarried women in the U.S. between the ages of 35 and 39 shot up 48 percent between 2002 and 2012.” The study also found that birth rates for women between 40 and 44 have gone up, 29 percent between 2007 and 2012.
In the Septmeber issue of ESSENCE, Tai Beauchamp opened up about her decision to freeze her eggs around her 35th birthday. Like many women, Beauchamp wants to be able to take things slowly when she finally meets someone special, instead of feeling rushed to start a family.
And although plenty of women have healthy babies over 40, we got to thinking: if you were 35, unattached and still longing to be a mother, what would you do? Would you freeze your eggs and wait, like Beauchamp did? Would you look into artifical insemination? Would you apply for adoption? Would you turn to a male friend you trusted to help you have a baby of your own? Or you would you do none of these, and let life run its course?
