Back in 2012 during his Watch The Throne tour, Kanye West made a statement by wearing a skirt (with leather pants) for the duration of the tour. Afterwards, celebs like Diddy, Vin Diesel, Chad Ochocino, A$AP Rocky and more were spotted rocking the same trend.
Two years later the skirt-trend is getting a new wind thanks to both West and actor Omar Epps, who recently appeared on The View wearing black pants and a skirt. The Resurrection star received harsh criticism from fans after his appearance.
“It’s sad that we as African-Americans are so disconnected from our true roots, our heritage & our lineage that most can’t see the forest for the trees,” he wrote.
“For me, it’s about celebrating and honoring our ancestral history thru actions. I walk on the shoulders of the ancients. And we’ve become so disconnected from our African roots that we give credit to others (who came long after) for “creating” that of which was our natural culture to begin with.”
Several hundred miles away, West dusted off his old kilt (ok, it was probably new) for a rare Watch The Throne performance with Jay Z at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
The trend of men wearing skirts has us thinking about the fashion choices men have made over time. From baggy pants to man-purses, we all have one or two that we wish never became popular, especially when it comes to the men we have to see on a daily basis. Which fashion choices would you rather your man avoid?
