2014 is quickly coming to an end and we’re looking back at the major moves Black women have been making.
First Lady Michelle Obama was a flawless reminder of a woman on top, making power moves and having fun, whether she was jumping rope in China or turning up with a turnip.
Solange broke the Internet with her all-white wedding in New Orleans while her big sis Beyoncé made the world want to be feminists.
Laverne Cox became an activist for the transgender movement, while her Orange is the New Black co-stars Samira Wiley and Uzo Aduba stole the show.
Ava DuVernay became the first Black woman nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Director for her highly anticipated biopic, Selma. Even our young people were forces to be reckoned with, from Moné Davis breaking down barriers in sports and Quvenzhané Wallis’ breaking through as Hollywood’s rising star.
And we can’t forget about Lupita Nyong’o, who continues to dazzle and inspire from her Academy Award-winning role in 12 Years A Slave, to her stance on beauty and confidence that she shared at ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood this year.
We know it’s nearly impossible to pick just one of these powerful and influential ladies, but tell us who your #WCW of 2014 is. Share your pick in the comments below.
