Two NBA championship rings and two Olympic medals are no match for the position Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade plays at home where he is a dad to his two sons Zaire, 10 and Zion, 5. We caught up with the NBA champ when he stopped by TIME Magazine to answer 10 Questions and offer more insight on his new book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball.
“My mom used to always tell me, ‘Your life is bigger than basketball.’ I didn’t understand that at the time, but now at the age of 30 I understand that my life is bigger than the game of basketball,” Wade says of the book’s title. He’s also careful not to gloss over his divorce and bitter custody battle with Zaire and Zion’s mother, Siohvaughn Wade.
“I really focus on being a father as well as the custody battle I went through,” he says, adding that the book’s main mission is to “shed light on good fathers.”
