The Color Purple is coming back to Broadway with a fresh new cast, and we have your very first look at the production’s poster.
Broadway newbies Jennifer Hudson and Orange is the New Black‘s Danielle Brooks join British stage actress Cynthia Erivo to star in the upcoming musical, directed by John Doyle (can’t you smell the Tony Awards already?), based off of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Hudson landed the role of Shug Avery, while Erivo will play the lead role as Celie and Brooks steps into the shoes of Sofia.
“When you’re in a career where you hear so many no’s…you have to find that inner strength within yourself,” Brooks told ESSENCE.com earlier this year. “And that’s why [Sofia] means so much. She’s such a bold woman, such a goddess, such a stoic character, and I’m excited to take this journey.”
Will you be there on opening night?
