Star actress Ryan Destiny has landed the lead role in the upcoming film Flint Strong.
Directed by Mudbound cinematographer Rachel Morrison, the first female cinematographer to be nominated for an Academy Award, and written by Moonlight‘s Barry Jenkins, Flint Strong tells the story of Gold Medal-winning boxer Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, following her journey from Flint, Michigan to the Olympics.
The film is Destiny’s first major studio role following her starring role in Lee Daniels’ hit Fox series Star.
Variety reports that the project is based on the 2015 boxing documentary T-Rex, which took an intimate look at Shields’ rise to fame.
Along with her starring role in Flint Strong, Destiny is also set to appear in the third season of Freeform’s Grown-ish as Jillian, a film student who transfers to Cal U from an HBCU.
Congrats, sis!
