The mixed martial arts world lost a great yesterday.
ESPN reports that famed MMA fighter Kimbo Slice died unexpectedly yesterday at the age of 42. Cause of death is unknown, though foul play is not suspected.

“Outside of the cage, he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man,” Bellator MMA president Scott Coker said in a statement. “His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo’s friends, fans and teammates.”
After a tumultuous start, Slice found his rhythm in the ring. In 2008, he fought—and won—the first MMA fight that was broadcast on primetime network television, and he briefly left MMA to pursue a career in wrestling.
Though he was lauded for his TKOs, he remained humble. Family and friends remember him as a kind athlete.

“He carried himself as a true professional during his time in our organization,” Bellator said in a statement. “While he will never be forgotten for his fighting style and transcendent image, Slice will also be remembered for his warm personality and commitment to his family and friends.”
