A Georgia jury has found Jeffrey Simon Hubbard guilty of homicide by vessel in the jet ski crash that killed Usher’s 11-year-old stepson, Kile Glover.
USA Today reports that the jury also found Hubbard guilty of 4 other counts including serious injury by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation.
The 2012 crash happened when Hubbard’s jet ski hit Kile, the son of Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond and Atlanta television executive Ryan Glover, and a 15-year-old girl as they were floating on a towed inner tube. Glover died of head injuries six days later and the other teen was severely injured.
Defense attorneys argued that Hubbard, a close friend of Ryan Glover, tried to avoid the children and the crash was a tragic accident, but not reckless. Hubbard was part of the family’s outing on Lake Lanier in Atlanta that tragic day.
Hubbard will be sentenced March 5.
