A St. Louis County grand jury has finally reached a decision in the case of Officer Darren Wilson, who fatally shot 18-year-old Black teenager, Michael Brown, USA Today reports.
Prosecutor Robert McCulloch will announce after 5p.m. CT (6p.m. ET) whether Wilson will face charges. A prosecutor has already called Brown’s family this afternoon.
The impending verdict has dominated national news headlines all week as the local community fears outrage and civil unrest if Wilson is not charged.
Protesters and local police forces have collaborated on “rules of engagement” in preparation for the coming decision while Gov. Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency and activated the state’s National Guard.
