Protestors gathered Saturday for the second day of peaceful protests in St. Louis.
According to the Huffington Post, more than 1,000 people came out to protest Michael Brown’s death and other fatal police shootings.
Marchers assembled during the morning hours in downtown St. Louis. The crowd, was larger than the ones seen at Friday’s protest and was focused on the recent police shotings but also gay rights and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The four-day event dubbed Ferguson October began Friday afternoon with a march outside the St. Louis County prosecutors office. Demonstrators channeled a Mexican Halloween tradition and set up a Day of the Dead altar to memorialize Michael Brown.
The movement ultimately calls for prosecutor Bob McCulloch to charge officer Darren Wilson with the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. A grand jury is currently reviewing the case.
“Power concedes nothing without a demand,” organizers said.
“Our country can no longer deny the epidemic of police violence facing black and brown communities,” the movement’s website states. “Mike Brown is now part of a long list of people like John Crawford, Ezell Ford, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant and countless others who have been unjustly killed by police. Their lives mattered.”
The crowd was made up of diverse, multigenerational marchers who say that creating a national movement about police abuse against minoritites is “vitally important.”
Several other events will be held Sunday, including an evening meeting of at St. Louis University with author and professor Cornel West, rapper-activist Tef Poe and Rabbi Susan Talve.
The ceremony will wrap up on Monday as protestors remove items from the Day of the Dead memorial.
