Attorney Mark O’Mara announced Zimmerman’s return on his Website Sunday, saying Zimmerman arrived late Saturday evening.
Zimmerman was ordered to return to jail after suspicions arose that he “deceived” the court about his finances during a bond hearing in April. Zimmerman also allegedly obtained a second passport, which he reportedly secured two weeks after the shooting.
On Sunday morning Zimmerman’s attorneys said they will ask for a new bond hearing to address those concerns and that they hope Zimmerman’s voluntary surrender will show he is not a flight risk.
Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to the second degree murder charge. He claims he shot Martin in self-defense under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law because Martin, who was unarmed, physically attacked him in a gated community outside Orlando.
