Rivera appeared on Fox News on Friday to discuss Chicago’s rising murder rate. He claims that some of the city’s homicides occurred because victims wore “thug wear.”
He went on to say, “I was right about the hoodie, wasn’t I? I hate to brag but I got criticized by every pundit in America when I said Trayvon Martin would be alive but for the fact that he was wearing thug wear… he was wearing the hoodie. Turns out now that we look at George Zimmerman’s interviews with the police; he didn’t profile Trayvon Martin because he was Black, he profiled him because he was wearing a hoodie… he was a strange kid wearing the same garb like other perpetrators of house break-ins in this community.”
In related Trayvon Martin news, George Zimmerman and his attorney Mark O’Mara are feverishly working to get Judge Kenneth Lester removed from the case. Zimmerman claims he won’t receive a fair trial under his eye, according to ABC.
In a 17-page document filed Friday, Zimmerman says Judge Lester’s response in the July 5 order that set him free on $1M bail exhibited signs of bias. Judge Lester wrote at the time “[Zimmerman] flaunted the system” and practiced “deception upon the court.”
The motion explains the Judge Lester’s statements were “disingenuous, self-serving manipulations.” Zimmerman also claims Judge Lester and the court “departed from its role as an impartial, objective minister of justice.”
The prosecution has yet to respond to the motion and plans to release a formal statement early next week.
Zimmerman remains free on $1M bond and is currently staying in a safe house in Seminole County, Florida.
Where do you stand? Is Geraldo Rivera’s hoodie comment bogus or is he on to something? Should Judge Lester be removed from the case?
