On Monday, the 2018 Golden Globe Nominations were announced, an honor that recognizes the best films, shows and stars of the big and small screen.
The 75th Golden Globe nominations included two for Mary J. Blige in the categories of Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture and Best Original Song for “Mighty River” with Raphael Saadiq —both from her role in Dee Rees’ film Mudbound.
Also in the Supporting Actress category was Octavia Spencer for her role in The Shape of Water directed by Guillermo del Toro. The box-office hit received the most film nominations with a total of seven.
A worthy nomination went to Issa Rae for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy Television Series for her role in Insecure — a show she created and writes on HBO.
Also in the category of comedy, Anthony Anderson received a nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his role on ABC’s black-ish. The show, which also stars Tracee Ellis Ross, Yara Shahidi and Jenifer Lewis was also nominated for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy.
Jordan Peele’s horror, Get Out pulled in two nominations: One for Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy and the other for Best Performance by an Actor for Daniel Kaluuya’s lead role in the film.
The Foreign Press also honored leading men Sterling K. Brown and Denzel Washington. Brown received a nomination for Best Actor in a Television Drama for his role in This Is Us and Washington received a nod for Best Performance in a Motion Picture for his role in Roman J. Israel, Esq.
Congrats to all the nominees!
The Golden Globes ceremony airs on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
