Primetime is about to get more Black female starpower now that Halle Berry is coming to the small screen.
The Oscar-winning actress is slated to take on her first major TV role in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi drama Extant on CBS. Deadline reports that Berry will play an astronaut who returns home after a year-long mission to space. The series follows her as she tries to get back to living on earth and reconnecting with her husband and son.
“As she does with everything she touches, [Halle Berry] will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her,” said Spielberg in a statement.
Berry is currently in the last trimester of her pregnancy so we imagine filming won’t star any time soon.
Could the success of Scandal and Kerry Washington be inspiring TV execs to take a chance on putting Black women in the lead? Whatever the reason, we’re excited we’ll get to see Halle Berry on our screens every week.
