In recent months, this classically-trained pianist and R&B diva has been busy promoting her fifth studio album, Girl on Fire, all across the globe. In fact, Keys rang in her 32nd birthday on stage in Madrid, Spain. Soon afterwards, her husband, Swizz Beatz, tweeted, “Happy bday to my wife! A person who celebrates everybody, but hardly ever celebrates her self. Today is all yours :)”
On December 6, Keys brought out her most influential celebrity friends, including Oprah Winfrey, to help raise funds at her 9th Annual Black Ball, which benefits her Keep a Child Alive Foundation. Together, they raised $2.9 million to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.
Yes, she’s sold millions of albums and nabbed arm fulls of awards at a time, but the accomplishment Keys is most proud of is raising her 2-year-old son, Egypt. In recent memory she beamed with happiness when talking about her son and mentioned she wants him to be charitable. “I think as a compassionate person, which I really want to teach him to be, you naturally want to lend and be a part change,” said Keys. “I know that naturally he’ll find the thing he’s passionate about and want to change.”
