In her lifetime, she’s done it all! Ms. Simmons started off on the catwalk at the tender age of 13. From there, she made her mark in fashion by becoming Karl Lagerfeld’s muse and face of Chanel.
It wouldn’t be long until she met and married Russell Simmons. Together, they launched Baby Phat in 1999, her own brand of clothes, fragrances and more. As time went on they had two children Ming Lee, 12, and Aoki Lee, 10. Unfortunately, that relationship came to an end in 2006.
The next year, the Missouri born model met actor and model Djimon Hounsou and fell madly in love. The couple soon married and then welcomed a baby boy, Kenzo Lee, in 2009. She told ESSENCE.com in a 2011 interview that she and Hounsou balance each other nicely. “He’s very quiet and strong. My Asian symbol is a rabbit and his is a dragon and I think that says a lot.”
From there, this mommy of three has been taking her business and brand to new heights. She’s since parted ways with Baby Phat and launched KLS in 2011.
To put it simply, we adore Simmons and all the hard work she puts into her career, her family and herself.
