Earlier today, my close friend posted this question on her Facebook page: “How do you break up with your hairstylist?”
The responses ranged from, “Just stop going to her salon,” to “Tell her you simply need a change.” One responder hilariously commented, “If you’re the lying type, just tell her you went natural.” Ha!
The conversation made me recall a similar situation I found myself in many years ago. I had moved to a new city and was so excited that I finally found a stylist I loved. About a year later, she gave me a dreadful haircut. After seething over it for a few days and making an appointment with another stylist to fix my hair, I finally gave her a call to politely discuss the haircut with her. I told her I was unhappy about the style and asked her if she cut it so short because I had breakage (which I knew was NOT the case) or maybe there was some other reason. She claimed that she cut it into a “style” (a “style” that I did not ask for, mind you), was very apologetic and offered a refund, which I declined. I didn’t care about the money, I just wanted to kindly express to her that it was not okay to get scissor-happy on folk’s hair. I felt peace after the convo but never went back to her again because I didn’t trust her anymore.
So this brings me to my question: Has something like this ever happened to you? How would you break up with your hairstylist? Take our poll and comment below!
