It takes a village to build a buff action hero body. To prepare for the physically harrowing role of detective Alex Cross in the new film by the same name, Tyler Perry lost 30 pounds and worked out twice daily. According to director Rob Cohen (of The Fast and the Furious fame), Perry did all the stunts but one himself. Yes, that’s the man himself leaping two stories down onto the roof of a police car, racing through a seemingly endless tunnel, and firing guns like he’s spent his entire life at the shooting range.
Tyler’s Dream Body Team:
David Allen, nutritionist (also Janet Jackson’s): He put Tyler on a strict high-protein, low-fat, low-carb diet. The big thrill of the day: two protein shakes and a beanless, sauceless turkey chili. Talk about suffering for buffness.
David Goldston, trainer: Took him through twice daily sessions of Krav Maga, an Israeli martial art.
The Pray Fit system, which weds prayer and spiritual centeredness to exercise.
Is it a wonder he’s never looked better?
