Here’s your weekly reminder of how every Monday brings something crazy and new out of our lovely government under Donald Trump. U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the man who is currently overseeing the investigation into Russia meddling in the 2016 presidential election, is either going to be fired or resign today, according to Axios. Last week, whispers of a possible firing came to a head when the NY Times reported that Rosenstein suggested that Trump should be secretly recorded and had discussed invoking the 25th amendment to remove Trump from office. Rosenstein’s expected resignation or firing will immediately raise questions about the fate of the ongoing investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, who is probing Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, and possible obstruction of justice by Trump. Over the weekend, Trump disclosed in an interview with Geraldo Rivera that he would consider firing Rosenstein. “Certainly it’s being looked at in terms of what took place, if anything took place. I’ll make a determination sometime later but I don’t have the facts,” Trump said. With Rosenstein on his way out, one can only assume Trump is giddy with joy. Let me remind you, it’s only Monday and it’s already shaping up to be a long week in politics.
