It often doesn’t take a lot to be kind to something, and Jamario Howard and his friends proved that when they invited an elderly woman they saw eating alone to dine with them at a restaurant last week.
Last Thursday, Howard posted about the encounter with the woman while dining out with three friends at an eatery called Brads in Oxford, Alabama.
“After us sitting there a while waiting on our food I noticed an elderly woman sitting alone. My exact thoughts was “dang I’d hate to have to eat alone,” Howard wrote. “So after thinking about it a minute I walked over to her and asked if I could sit with her.”
The woman agreed to have Howard sit with her, and the two started talking. After a while she revealed to him that she had lost her husband, but tomorrow would have been their 60th anniversary. Howard instantly offered his condolences and then upped his act of kindness by asking the woman to sit with him and his friends, which he writes, “she was excited to do.”
“The point in this is always be kind and be nice to people. You never know what they are going through. This woman changed my outlook on life and how I look at other people,” he wrote. “Everyone has a story so do not judge!”
The post on Facebook has gotten a lot of attention, being shared more than 43,000 times, with more than 14,000 comments.
Howard used the opportunity to stress to people to check in with family members, especially those who might be older.
“People I can’t stress this enough. GO SEE YOUR MOM AND YOUR GRANDPARENTS,” he wrote. “They miss you!!
