Janelle Monae and her Wondaland Records crew have message for police brutality and injustice: Hell You Talmbout?
After spending the week leading #BlackLivesMatter protests in Philadelphia and New York, Monae and Wondaland—which singers Jidenna, St. Beauty, Deep Cotton and Roman GianArthur—released the electric “Hell You Talmbout” single.
With a heart-throbbing drum beat and soul-stirring chants, “Hell You Talmbout ” addresses police brutality and today’s social uprisings. “Sandra Bland, say her name!…Michael Brown, say his name!” they chanted.
On Instagram, Monae explained that the song was made to channel the pain of the Black community. “It carries the unbearable anguish of millions…They say a question lives forever until it gets the answer it deserves… Won’t you say their names?” she captioned.
