Jidenna has dropped the visuals for the first single from his highly anticipated sophomore album and it was “worth the weight.”
The song—which is actually called “Worth The Weight”—features the iconic Seun Kuti on the track, and Jidenna matches the triumphant vibes of the song with the colorful, high energy video directed by Wesley Isaías Walker.
The album, 85 to Africa, is a call to the African Diaspora to reconnect with their African roots. The title refers to the journey he took to the continent from after being unceremoniously evicted from his Atlanta home in 2017.
“I wanted this album to be a highway that you could take to Africa. We’re living in a time where there’s a lot less borders between people,” he said in an interview with MTV. “There’s some people to build borders and make walls but the rest of us know that we are in a time where global culture is it. This album is a mixture of all of that.”
The 11-track album also boasts features from Goldlink, St. Beauty and Mereba.
“This is the first body of work that I’m actually proud of. This was not only a release of an album, it was a release for my spirit from all the self-doubt, perfectionism, and anxiety,” he wrote in an Instagram post. I give thanks for the overwhelming support. Bless up to each and every one of you.”
