John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen have long been outspoken about their disdain for the Trump administration’s increasingly detrimental policies targeting minorities and people of color, and they didn’t hesitate to remind the ringleader himself of as much yet again on his birthday.
Taking a moment to address Donald Trump directly via his primary communication took on his 72nd birthday last week, the Legend family held no punches as they shared a joint open letter to the Commander In Chief about the devastating effects of his latest immigration reform mandate.
“John and I are outraged to see and hear the horror stories of immigrant families seeking asylum and refuge in America being ripped apart due to the inhumane policies of the Trump administration,” Chrissy wrote in the letter.
In addition to calling Trump out, the couple revealed that each member of their family would be donating $72,000 to help the ACLU continue to defend the rights of immigrant families. The letter also noted the ACLU’s ongoing efforts in the fight for reproductive rights, voting rights, criminal justice reform, LGBT rights and “holding the Trump administration accountable whenever possible.”
John and Chrissy recently welcomed their second child, a son named Miles, in May and have continued to use their personal and professional platforms to demand change while expanding their family and building their careers.
