Kanye West has sparked yet another controversy – but this time with his latest “Monster” music video. The six-minute clip, which depicts dead women hanging from ceilings and scantily clad in lingerie, was recently banned by MTV for its violence and explicit content toward women.
The stir over Kanye’s explicit model “Monster” mash started when women’s rights activists
Sharon Haywood and Melinda Tankard Reist gathered nearly 5,000 signatures for a petition to have the rapper music video removed from major networks.
“The video features West, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and Nikki Minaj surrounded by the “sexy” corpses of women in lingerie. Other women dangle from the ceiling by chains,” the petition read. ” Ross erotically eats a plate of raw meat from between a female corpse’s legs. And West practically rapes the dead bodies of two women in bed. The message of the video is pretty clear: women are sex objects and it can be erotic when they are killed in violent, sexual way.”
Shortly after the petition and letters, MTV responded by banning the video, saying that the network does not tolerate violence towards women. Watch the full video here.
