In the thick of the holiday shopping season, moms who want to purchase Black dolls for their daughters now have two more options to choose from.
The iconic Kenya Doll, who made her way into millions of homes in the 90’s, is making a much-welcomed comeback. Retail chain Family Dollar has announced that the beloved doll will be stocked on store shelves for the holidays in four styles for various age groups: Classic Kenya, Fashion Kenya, Kenya Mini, and My First Kenya. The doll comes in three African American skin tones and each doll is outfitted in chic, fashion-forward attire. Additional outfits can be purchased separately.
In addition to Kenya’s return, moms can also find a wide range of brown-skinned beauties in the Pretty Brown Girl doll collection. This line was started by husband and wife duo, Sheri and Corey Crawley, after they had a difficult time finding darker complexions while shopping for toys for their daughters. In addition to dolls, the Pretty Brown Girl line includes T-shirts, accessories and a children’s book to empower and reflect the beauty of little girls of color.
You can purchase the Kenya Doll at retail locations of Family Dollar. Items in the Pretty Brown Girl collection can be purchased online here.
