K. Michelle stopped by The Breakfast Club this week to talk about her latest album, More Issues Than Vogue. While there, the singer was asked—among other things—about forgiving her ex, producer MempHitz, whom she had accused of domestic abuse.
K. recalled how strange it was to talk to the man who had spent years denying her allegations and accusing her of lying about the extent of the abuse. To boot, MempHitz lost the defamation lawsuit he had filed against her in 2012, and the two later reconciled.
“People still won’t let you be,” said K. [at 17:35] on how many still think she lied about the physical abuse. “Because I’m so outspoken, it’s hard for people to embrace me as a victim.”
“Because I’m strong. I’m not some passive little girl…it’s more like, ‘That b***h got a big mouth.'”
Is she right? Do we not support outspoken women when they are victims? Do we think victims can’t be strong or truly speak their minds without being accused of lying?
