Nelson Mandela’s life story is coming to the small screen.
Deadline reports that a new miniseries based on the beloved freedom fighter’s extraordinary life has been given the green light over at BET.

The six-hour series is executive produced by Mandela’s grandson Kweku and will be based on the books Conversations With Myself and Nelson Mandela by Himself. It will cover Mandela’s life as a young lawyer fighting against apartheid in the 60s in South Africa. Prison Break director Kevin Hooks will be at the helm.

“Nelson Mandela’s journey of political activism and leadership is deeply inspirational and we are proud to have the talented and award-winning actor Laurence Fishburne join Madiba to tell this triumphant story” said Stephen Hill, President of Programming, BET Networks.
Production for the series is expected to begin in early 2016 in South Africa.
