The one-man Broadway play, “Thurgood,” starring Laurence Fishburne will take a break from theaters for a television debut on HBO. The show, which explores the life of Civil Rights judge Thurgood Marshall, airs on premium cable this February in honor of Black history month.
The solo play revolves around Marshall’s controversial life as the nation’s first African-American Supreme Court justice. Fishburne narrates the play in first person, taking audiences on a riveting journey through the civil rights icon’s legal career and personal life.The play takes a compelling look at the man behind Brown vs. Board of Education and a ruling that forever changed the lives of black children in public schools.
Thurgood” airs on Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. PST. The show will also air on Feb. 24 at 3:55 a.m. and Feb. 27 at 11:45 a.m. From his role as Ike in the tumultuous tale of Tina Turner to his take on Shakespeare’s Othello, we know Fishburne is a great actor – we’ll definitely stay tuned for this one!
