Lauryn Hill is no stranger to tax issues. Since 2013, the former Fugees singer has seen the ins and outs of a jail cell for tax evasion on nearly $2 million. And now that rumors have soared about a new tax lien for $438,221, Hill is speaking out and putting the digital whispers to rest.
L. Boogie turned to her Twitter page Monday afternoon to let the public know “this has been an ongoing process, and I have been working steadily towards a resolution.” In other words, she doesn’t have time to create new problems because she’s still working on fixing the old ones. Hill continued, “It has been an uphill battle, but we’re getting over the hump.”

The New Jersey native’s tax PSA went on to explain she wanted out of the music business and detailed the reasons she encountered financial issues with the governement in the first place. “I left the game, I wanted out, the way it was organized needed adjustment,” Hill said. “When you eat a lot of other people’s debts like I did, and become financially responsible for as many people as I did, a break like the one I took was necessary.
