With a little over a week left before her jail sentence begins, Lauryn Hill took to her Tumblr to post an open letter directed towards the IRS.
Hill ranted in a lengthy blog post about how people of color behave in a certain way towards White people as a response to years of negativity from them.
“The concept of reverse racism is flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous,” Hill writes. “Most, if not all, of the negative responses from people of color toward White people, are reactions to the hatred, violence, cruelty and brutality that they were shown by white people for centuries.”
Hill goes on to equate her IRS woes with acts of racism.
“I shuddered during sentencing when I kept hearing the term ‘make the IRS whole’… The entire time, I thought, who has made Black people whole? Who has made recompense for stealing, imposing, lying, murdering, criminalizing the traumatized, taking them against their wills, destroying their homes, dividing their communities, ‘trying’ to steal their destinies, their time, stagnating their development.”
Hill also compared the judge in her tax evasion case to a slave master after being asked why she never did charity work in the past.
“She sounded like the echo of the grotesque slave master, who expected women to give birth while in the field, scoop the baby up, and then continue to work,” wrote Hill.
The eight-time Grammy award-winning artist is set to begin her 3-month prison sentence on July 8.
