It looks like the color red is causing quite the stir for Christian Louboutin. The fashion icon is suing Yves Saint Laurent for using red shoe soles. Louboutin has reportedly asked Saint Laurent to stop slapping rouge onto the bottom of his brand’s pumps since January …
Louboutin claims red-sole pumps – which he introduced to his company’s luxury shoes in 1992 – are a product of his fashion genius. The designer said he got the idea for the soles when he painted red nail polish on the black soles of a pair of women’s shoes. According to his lawsuit, the defendants’ “use of red footwear outsoles that are virtually identical to plaintiffs’ Red Sole Mark is likely to cause” confusion and will deceive “the relevant purchasing public.”
Louboutin is seeking $1 million in damages from Yves Saint Laurent, but the heels are priced in stores anywhere from $450 to $4,000. What do you think about Louboutin suing Yves Saint Laurent of red shoe soles? Fair or no?
