The Obamas officially have less than 70 days left in the Oval Office and BET paid fitting tribute to the nation’s most unforgettable First Family with a star-studded celebration of blackness at the White House on Tuesday evening.
Appropriately titled, “Love And Happiness: An Obama Celebration,” the uplifting event was a who’s who of entertainers and media professionals coming together to reflect on some of the many inspirational moments from the Obama family’s tenure in the White House. Terrence J and Regina Hall paired up to host the celebration, keeping the crowd laughing and smiling the whole way through. Among those who shared kind words and fond memories included actress Angela Bassett, who spoke about the couple as a strong representation of Black love, and actor/activist Jesse Williams, who spoke about the family’s positive influence on the country.
The evening also included performances from Usher, Janelle Monae, Common, Yolanda Adams, Michelle Williams, Jill Scott and Kierra Clark Sheard. In one of the most talked-about moments of the night, Bel Biv DeVoe also reunited to ignite the crowd with a medley of their classics.

Per usual, the program gave birth to a host of epic memes and gifs of the Obamas thoroughly enjoying the celebration from the audience, as well as a trending #ThankYouObama hashtag that quickly took over social media.
8 years. No scandals. No mistresses. No impeachment hearings. Just class and grace till the end. I sure am going to miss you. #ThankYouObamapic.twitter.com/5J2anIO5LW
President Obama also took to the stage to address the intimate crowd, where he light-heartedly thanked BET for agreeing to film “Obama’s block party,” and the first couple even joined in on a group dance fest to the tune of Al Green’s “Love And Happiness,” as performed by The Roots.
