The reintroduction of Popeyes’ viral chicken sandwich apparently started an altercation at an Oxon Hill, Maryland, location, resulting in the stabbing death of a 28-year-old man.
According to WJLA, the still unidentified victim was waiting in line for the sandwich, which returned to the restaurant’s menu this week after a two-month hiatus, when he and another man began arguing.
The altercation, which started inside of the Popeyes, spilled outside where the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim.
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Prince George’s County Police are still investigating the case, but believe that the incident may have started when someone cut in line at the restaurant.
“Our homicide detectives are hard at work on this one, but we have been able to determine preliminarily that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant,” Jennifer Donelan, PGPD’s media relations director told the news station.
The suspect is still at large. Police are asking witnesses to come forward to help identify the suspect.
