This year, Mariah Carey, Dr. Maya Angelou, Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Beverly Kearney and the Tuskegee Airmen will be recognized for their contributions to entertainment, literature, musical arts, media, education and service, according to a press release.
This year’s honorees are hard at work on their own projects — Mariah Carey is currently in the studio cooking up a new album for 2012, while Dr. Maya Angelou is working on an unscripted series with the Hallmark Channel. Stevie Wonder recently revealed on “Ellen” that he’s preparing for his “Dancing with the Stars” debut, and Spike Lee is teaming up with Eddie Murphy for a Marion Barry biopic. Last but not least, “Red Tails,” a new film about the Tuskegee Airmen, will be released on January 20th.
In years past, BET has honored Cicely Tyson, Whitney Houston, Jamie Foxx, Alicia Keys and others for their contributions.
