Mary J. Blige is getting her due respect.
On Thursday, it was announced that the singer will receive a star on the historic Hollywood Walk of Fame in the recording category.
“Mary J. Blige is one of the most popular singers of our generation,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “Fans will be thrilled to see her star on the Boulevard as her career milestones are celebrated on this very famous sidewalk.”
For over 20 years, Blige has had a successful career in music with 13 albums and nine Grammy awards. In film, she shined in 2017’s Mudbound, which scored her Golden Globe Award, SAG Award and Critics’ Choice Award nominations.
“Playing Florence was so therapeutic for me and I poured a lot of my personal pain into her, Blige recently said about her role in Mudbound at the 29th Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. “And she healed me. She healed parts of me that I didn’t even realize were broken.”
“Connecting with her was a blessing for me personally. I know she was aside me the whole time because my whole family is Southern. And when were kids, my mom would send us to Georgia in the summers. My grandmother and my aunts are this woman, Florence.”
As reported by Variety, the ceremony will take place on Jan. 11 and Sean “Diddy” Combs will join Hollywood Chamber president and CEO Leron Gubler to unveil the star.
