Critics have begun pointing fingers at Maryland State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby after she failed to secure any convictions thus far against the police officers charged for Freddie Gray’s death.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the police union issued a statement yesterday following a judge’s decision to acquit Officer Caesar Goodson Jr.—the cop driving the police van—of all charges.

“It’s time to put this sad chapter behind us,” Lt. Gene Ryan, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3, said at a conference.
Goodson was the third of six officers charged in Gray’s death to stand trial. The first case was declared a mistrial, and the second officer was found not guilty.
Representatives for the police union said that Judge Barry Williams’ decisions show that Mosby’s prosecutions are invalid and a waste of tax money.
However, a Baltimore attorney believes that Mosby is not to blame for the failed convictions.
Cop Who Drove Van in Freddie Gray Case Found Not Guilty
“If there’s a failure in this case in overcharging, I don’t think that should be laid at her feet,” said attorney Richard C.B. Woods to the Baltimore Sun. “You don’t go after the state’s attorney for that; you go after the trial team.”
Gray died April 19, 2015 from injuries he sustained while riding in a police van while unbuckled. Shortly after his death, Mosby brought charges ranging from official misconduct to second-degree murder against the six officers involved. Three officers are still awaiting trial.
