A teacher in Maryland is facing backlash over images posted to Instagram, where she uses Black students as props for questionable jokes.
Kelly Forostiak, a teacher at Deer Park Elementary in Maryland, is under fire after posting images in which she calls her Black students “little assholes” and captioned one of a student in a sombrero and a faux mustache as “this is an African American Mexican.”

The photos, submitted anonymously to Atlanta Black Star, have caused parents and community members to call for action against the teacher with many asking to have her removed from the school. Many on social media have called the teacher’s actions “absolutely not okay” and inappropriate, stating that as a teacher Forostiak is held to a “higher moral code.”
Mychael Dickerson, the county schools spokesman, told the Baltimore Sun that Forostiak regrets posting the images and comments, adding that she is facing disciplinary action and accepts the punishment that she’s facing. However, Dickerson did not disclose what action was being taken and Forostiak is still currently employed with the school system.
