An Oxford, Mississippi police officer is facing murder charges in connection to the death of 32-year-old Dominique Clayton.
According to WREG, Officer Matthew Kinne was arrested following an investigation that began on Sunday.
Few details are known about Clayton’s death, which the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating as a homicide.
However, Oxford Police Interim Chief Jeff McCutchen said that it was discovered early in the investigation that Kinne was possibly involved in a relationship with the 32-year-old mother of four.
McCutchen said that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called in at that point, in order to ensure that the investigation into Clayton’s death will be independent and unbiased.
“We want to assure you that we will not hide behind our badge,” McCutchen said. “Our hearts go out to the family of Dominique Clayton. To the family, we thank you for your patience and your trust in us to see this through.”
Clayton was found dead in Oxford on Sunday. There were no further details given about Kinne’s involvement with Clayton or how she died. However, a family member said that her body was discovered lying on her bed with a lot of blood on the back of her head.
Shyjuan Clayton, the sister of the victim, said that she was disappointed that more details about Clayton’s death weren’t revealed.
“Hopefully he’ll get convicted,” she said. “We’ll get justice for my sister.”
