Rep. Maxine Waters will address the nation Tuesday following President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union speech.
Her address will air on BET at the top of the network’s special programming for the evening, Buzzfeed News reports. Titled “Angela Rye’s State of the Union,” the show will also be the first time we get a glimpse of political commentator Angela Rye’s new programming for BET.
Auntie Maxine has been a vocal critic of the president from the moment he took office, often leading audiences with a rallying chat of “Impeach 45.”
“Since we have invested so much and since we have endured so much, we’ve got to provide the leadership to get rid of him,” she told the crowd at last year’s Essence Festival. “We can do this, you all, but we’ve got to stand up. I want you to rally. I want you to tweet. I want you to go on Facebook. I want you to write to your elected officials. I want you to do everything, whether it’s in a church, or whether it’s in a meeting of any kind. If you’re with the labor unions, etc., get busy. and keep going until we do what needs to be done. I am saying impeach 45! Impeach 45! Impeach 45! Impeach 45!”
BET recently announced a new partnership with Rye, in which she will be producing news programming for the network. Her programming will air quarterly and it aims to explore the issues and issues and stories affecting black America.
“Working with BET always provides a reminder of why I began to do this work,” Rye told Blavity. “It is essential that we have platforms where we can discuss our politics, our challenges, and our culture through our respective lenses. The upcoming special will provide a glimpse of what’s to come with our partnership.”
