Maya Angelou’s memorial service is set to take place Saturday June 7 at Wake Forest University.
According to the Huffington Post, the late poet and author’s family will have a private ceremony at the University’s Wait Chapel. Wake Forest University is a special site for the poet as it is where she began teaching in 1982 after she first visited to read her work.
Angelou passed away last week at her home in Winston Salem, North Carolina at the age of 86. The news of her death brought an outpouring of love from fans and celebrities alike.
Although the service will be private, the school will be streaming it online.
Angelou’s family is said to be planning additional events in other cities in her honor. More information will be released at a later date.
