On Monday, the Silver Mountain Foundation for the Arts sent the hefty check to the Segue Institute for Learning director and Davis’ childhood friend, Angelo Garcia. A note attached said it was on behalf of Davis.
The Institute has fallen on tough times and is raising money to purchase its current building or find a new home. The school serves more than 200 students in grades six through eight.
Both stars were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress on Sunday. Unfortunately, Davis didn’t walk away with the golden statue. Upon accepting the award, Streep told the audience, “When they called my name, I had this feeling I could hear half of America going, ‘Oh no! Oh come on, why her? Again!'”
