The Department of Justice is condemning the leak of Michael Brown’s official autopsy to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch earlier this week.
A DOJ spokeswoman says the leaks are “irresponsible and highly troubling.”
“There seems to be an inappropriate effort to influence the opinion about this case,” she added, The Los Angeles Times reports.
The information released by an unknown source shows that Brown was shot in the hand at close range. There’s also forensic information that shows that Brown and Officer Darren Wilson struggled in the police car and that Brown had marijuana in his system when he died. These new details seem to support Wilson’s version of the events that led to the teenager’s death.
The Aug. 9 shooting has sparked weeks of protests in the city of Ferguson where they are still awaiting a Grand Jury decision on whether Wilson will face any charges in Brown’s killing.
“There is no way there should be reports from all these anonymous sources and these ‘leaks’…This is supposed to play out in the justice system, and not the media,” said Patricia Bynes, the committeewoman for Ferguson township.
“The whole damn system is guilty as hell.” she added quoting the popular protest chant.
