Saying goodbye to the Obamas is an emotional moment for many Americans who’ve watched the First Family push for change and give voice to the voiceless.
Last night, Michelle Obama made her final appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as first lady, and it was nothing short of a tear-jerker.
Fallon, whose late night show premiered under the Obama administration, reminisced with the First Lady about all the fun they’ve had through the years. “I’m just so thankful,” said Fallon. “Thank you for your friendship and your leadership and please come back on the show as a citizen as well. Whatever you want, open door.”

”I want to thank you,” Obama replied. “You have been such an amazing partner on all my initiatives. You are funny, kind, (jokingly) cute, and you have the best band in the land.”
Obama further explained that the last few days have been incredibly emotional while saying farewell to America, the White House, and their incredible staff: “I didn’t think that it was going to be that emotional because it’s like, ‘Yeah, we’re ready. We’re good. We’re ready to go, it’s been eight years. Eight years is enough, we’re packing up.’ But, it has been surprisingly emotional for all of us in ways we didn’t expect.”
The First Lady touched on the fear that many people, even kids, are feeling as we head into an unknown future. “I don’t want them to be afraid,” she said. “I want them to embrace the future and know that the world is getting better. We have bumps in the road, we have ups and downs, but I want our kids to move forward––I don’t care where they come from––with strength and with hope.”
We’re certainly going to miss her.
