Last night’s Global Citizen Festival was one for the books as First lady Michelle Obama introduced a new campaign focusing on education for girls, and Beyoncé who changed three times during her set, performed hits like “Crazy In Love,” “Halo,” “Single Ladies,” and a guitar-based, acoustic version of “Drunk In Love,” with Ed Sheeran.
After President Obama appeared in a video to promote the 62 Million Girls campaign, the First Lady walked onstage after a warm introduction from Beyoncé.
“Right now 62 million girls are not in school… they deserve the same chances to get an education as my daughters and your daughters,” she said to the audience on the Great Lawn in New York’s Central Park.
According to CBSNews, the event, which aired on MSNBC, was hosted by Stephen Colbert, Kerry Washington and other top celebrities. Usher, Laverne Cox, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Bill and Melinda Gates also attended the event. The event also featured unique musical collaborations including Sting and Common.
