In an effort to raise awareness and end childhood obesity, Michelle Obama will release a hip-hop album centered around the cause.
Entitled Songs for a Healthier America, the album will promote the First Lady’s “Let’s Move!” campaign, which works to combat obesity within children. Obama teamed up with Partnership for a Healthier America and Hip Hop Public Health for the 19-track album and although she will not be found singing or rapping on it, the record will feature big names like Jordin Sparks, Ashanti, Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh and Monifah.
Ten music videos will also be released following the album. The videos are set to be distributed to 40 schools in the New York City area before being circulated to other major cities.
“Throughout history, music has been a great teacher and motivator, from ABC’s and nursery rhymes to religious hymns and national anthems,” said Olajide Williams, founder of Hip Hop Public Health.”It is time to harness this power for health.”
Songs for a Healthier America is set to be released on September 30.
